Obituary:
On Thursday, November 9th, Elsie Nielson passed away with her children by her side. Her love of life and her will to live guided her through her six-year battle with cancer.
Elsie Eleanor Nielson was born in Los Angeles, CA to Alexander Avacum Malsoff and Jennie Desatoff Malsoff on May 21, 1933 and was raised in Eureka, CA. She married her best friend Clyde Rowland Nielson in 1962 and remained married to him for nearly 55 years until his passing earlier this year.
Elsie studied music at the University of Holy Names in Oakland, CA and in Humboldt County. While raising her two children, she taught music in elementary schools as well as voice and piano lessons in her home and still found time to give back to her community. She served as the PTA President of Frank Zeek Elementary, the Ukiah Womens Golf Club, supported the Ukiah High School Bands and Ukiah High School Golf Teams. She served on the Board and was an adjudicator for the Northern California Band Association well into her eighties.

Minutes in life did not pass her by without an adventure, a service project or one of her many hobbies. She served on the ski patrol at Mt. Shasta, as a guide in the Trinity Alps with her donkey Hoopie, sang in the Sweet Adelines, sang and played the organ for the LDS church, avidly knitted and crocheted, was bilingual in Russian and English and could impress even the pickiest angler with her fly-tying skills. She had a determined spirit and never-ending energy.
