Obituary:
Alfred Lowell Osborn

Retired Lumberman and avid golfer passed gently after saying goodbye to his family in the comfort of his home.
Born in Stockton, California, on Flag Day June 14, 1919, he always joked that he was so important, the city put up flags to celebrate his birthday.
As a young boy his family moved to Mt. Shasta City, California where he graduated from high school and enjoyed the life that area offered.
He attended Chico State for two and half years and was active in sports all through his schooling. He also coached and refereed many games in the Sacramento Valley area. He continued interest in all sports and watched all he could, including the SF Giants and the 49ers, having season tickets for many years.
He served in US Army Air Corp during World War ll and Korean War from October 1943, to January 1953. He retired with rank of Captain.
At one time he owned and operated several Molding Mills in the Chico, Sacramento areas. He was especially proud of the special talents he possessed in making beautiful moldings. He grew up in the lumber business, following in his father’s footsteps. He shared his business with his brother Hilton, at one time. In 1964, he came to Ukiah to run the Molding Mill for Crawford Lumber Co. He retired from there in 1984, after eleven years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Reta Osborn. His wife of fifty nine years, Ruby, and his daughter Penny.
He is survived by his wife of ten years, Barbara, and his children, Gerald/Ana, Jeffrey, and Reta/Charles Roberts. Grandchildren; Darcy Osborn, Toby Carmichael, Eli Carmichael, Dylan and Nicole Osborn. Three great grandchildren: Luca, Luciana and Sasha Carmichael.
He loved to dance which he did often with his wife Ruby. He formed a dance club in Sacramento, California and enjoyed the jazz festivals, becoming well acquainted with some of their artists. When he married Barbara, they also enjoyed the lifestyle and were often seen at the Ukiah City Park swinging with the rest of them!
In the last ten years he has traveled with Barbara enjoying the State Parks in the USA, and also across this country by car. They also traveled to Europe and the Pacific areas on cruises. He loved to dress up, and cruise ships gave him a lot of pleasure to do all the thing he enjoyed.
He was a member of the Ukiah Elks Lodge and the Lumberman’s “who who”.
Memorial services will be held at 1st Presbyterian Church, Perkins and Dora Street, Ukiah, California on Saturday April 23, 2011, at 2 PM. In lieu of flowers donations to Phoenix Hospice, 100 San Hedrin Circle, Willits, California, 95490, is preferred.
