A memorial Mass for Bernadette Luke Pardini will be held on Saturday May 17, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary of the Angels Catholic Church in Ukiah. Bernadette passed away on Friday March 28, 2014 with her family and friends by her side.

Bernadette was born on February 1, 1926 in Iron Mountain, Michigan to Clyde and Permele Luke. She learned to ski at age 3 on skis her father hand made. She graduated from Iron Mountain High School in 1943 and Dundon’s Business College in 1944. Her first employment was with the William Cochran family business in Iron Mountain. She was an officer and member of the Pine Mountain Ski Club in the 1940’s and early 1950’s. Her wooden skis were donated to the National Ski Hall of Fame in Ishpeming, Michigan. After marrying, she moved to Ukiah, CA in 1955.

An administrative secretary for Mendocino County for 33 years, she was well respected for her professional ability and warm personality. A sign stating “Bloom Where You Are Planted” was prominently placed on her work desk for many years. She was a lifelong community volunteer for local causes such as Mendocino Co. Juvenile Hall in the early 1970’s, and as an original Plowshares volunteer from 1983 to 2003. A devout Catholic, Bernadette was a tireless supporter of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and St. Mary’s School, including its many organizations for more than 40 years. She also actively worked on the creation of Observatory Park. Michigan always held a special place in her heart evidenced by her regular visits to Iron Mountain and her love of Michigan State athletics.

Bernadette is survived by her brother William Luke of Charlotte, North Carolina, son Mark Pardini and wife Adriane, daughter Anne Pardini Ruprecht and husband John, beloved granddaughter Katherine Ruprecht, numerous nieces and nephews, and special friends Ed Renner and Mary Houghton. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Dr. Robert Luke. If desired, donations may be made in Bernadette’s memory to St. Mary’s School Foundation of Ukiah, 415 W. Perkins St., Ukiah, CA 95482. Internment will be private.
