Pierina Katherine Stambaugh

Pierina Stambaugh, affectionately known as Nonie or Aunt Pee, passed away peacefully at her home on October 27, 2022, with her daughters by her side. She was born on March 20, 1929, in Ukiah.  She leaves her daughters, Barbara Thurston and husband Norm, Judy Weer and husband Lloyd as well as two grandchildren, Christopher Weer (Araceli) and Kyle Weer (Kelli). Her grandson, Tom Thurston, predeceased her in November of 2005.

She also leaves great grandchildren Tyler Medina, Chloey Anderson, Tommy Thurston, Jr. Brumley, Alex Weer, Madie Weer, Kylena Weer and Kylis Weer.

Pierina loved living on the Zaina Ranch that her mother started in the 20s. Local grape farmers could always get a fresh cup of coffee during frost or harvest season, and it was a favorite stop for good conversation and a table full of food.

Her joys were her family and large vegetable and flower gardens.  Widowed in her 30’s, she was an independent and strong- willed woman never asking for help. Well-versed in home repairs always doing it herself and her way. Well into her 80’s, she’d been seen on the roof replacing a shingle.  Her grandsons eventually hid her ladders concerned she would fall.

She loved watching 3 generations of youth sports, beginning with her nephew and continuing with grandsons and great grandchildren.  Football, baseball and of course SF Giants and 49ers were her favorites.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to Hospice of Ukiah or your favorite charity in her memory. A private graveside service will be held.
