Graveside services will be held for Douglas Arthur Portlock of Redwood Valley on Thursday, September 23, 2010 at 1 p.m. at Ukiah Cemetery. Doug passed away on Friday, September 17, 2010 surrounded by his family.
Born September 25, 1931 in Santa Cruz, he lived in Mendocino County most all of his life. He and his wife opened R-Place Pizza in Boonville. Doug was a member of Operating Engineers Local Union #3 for 45 years.
He was very proud of his work on almost every dam and highway in northern California and of his family.
Doug loved everything about the coast. His favorite activities were camping, surf fishing and rock picking for abalone.
Doug married his long love, Stella (Desene) nee Michael, on June 14, 1952. Together they had six children, Michael, Randy, Larry, Roger, James and Ronda. They shared 15 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.
