Obituary:
Samuel Powell, 83, of Redwood Valley went to be with our Heavenly Father on Saturday, March 8, 2014 at Holy Spirit Residential Care Home with his family present. Samuel was born August 1, 1930 in Raymondville, Texas
Samuel was educated in a one room school. He became part of the dust bowl migration moving to Redwood Valley 60 years ago. He worked for Masonite Corp for 30 years and then for Hertz Rent-a-car.
Samuel was a proud father of seven, grandfather and great grandfather who loved sports and watching his grandchildrens sporting events. He was involved in the North Ukiah Little League as a coach receiving the coach appreciation award. Samuel also liked to fish.
Samuel attended the First Baptist Church and was a proud member of the Chickasaw Nation.
He will be remembered for the love of his children and always wanting the best for them. He was extremely hard working and a man of great integrity.
The family of Samuel would like to thank the Holy Spirit gang for all the laughs, parties, patience and loving care any one would hope for in the end of life stages.
Samuel is survived by his wife of 60 years Lucy Powell of Ukiah, daughters Johanna (John) Boardman of Ukiah, Gloria (Rich) Nordyke of Ukiah, Diana Powell of Sacramento, Alice (Ken) Harwood of Lakeport, sons Samuel (Susan) Powell of Lincoln, Thomas (Donna) Powell of Redwood Valley, Kenneth (Laura) Powell of Pine Mountain, sister Lorene Dougherty of Galt and sister in law Violet Powell of Sacramento. Also surviving are 19 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Samuel was preceded in death by his brothers and best friends Edward and Leo Powell, sister Mabel Taylor, nephew R.D. and son in law Allan Burns.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 12, 2014 from 2-8 PM at the Eversole Mortuary. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, March 13, 2014 at 11 AM at the Ukiah Cemetery with Pastor Kevin Wood officiating. A gathering will be held immediately following at the First Baptist Church in McCray Hall, have Samuels favorite meal a grand slam breakfast.
Memorial donations in Samuels name may be made to North Ukiah Little League, Walk to End Alzheimer Association. Hospice of Ukiah or Ukiah First Baptist Kitchen Fund.
