Alice Prevost

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 2, 2012 at the Ukiah Valley First Church of The Nazarene, 604 Jones St. Ukiah, for Alice Mae Thompson Prevost. Alice was a retired Teacher’s Assistant and cosmologist who passed on to be with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Saturday, December 24, 2011 at Ukiah Health Care where she lived for the last two years making many new friends with the staff and residents following a five-year illness of Alzheimer’s. The Pastor Jody Hampton will officiate. Eversole Mortuary will be in charge of interment at the family plot at Russian River Cemetery.
Alice was born at Fillmore, CA on January 2, 1926, the second child to David Glenn and Laura Carolyn Udall Thompson. The family moved to Ukiah in 1934. She attended Ukiah schools, graduating in 1943. Most of her lifetime friends were in that class. She cherished them.
She moved to San Jose and stayed with her Aunt Agnes and Uncle Ray Elam to attend Cosmology College. That’s where she met 1st husband Ira John Boster, he was stationed at Camp Penalton as a SeaBee, they were married at the Ukiah Methodist on January 27, 1945 spending their wedding night at the Cecil Hotel in Ukiah.
From this marriage she was blessed with her 3 girls, Lynda, Glenda and Laura. We can’t say enough about our mother. She was a brownie leader, girl scout leader, sports mom and always lent herself to whatever she could do to be of help.
She was an excellent cook, seamstress, gardener, friend, neighbor, daughter, wife, sister, aunt, Grama, Great Grama and Great Great Grama.
She loved all of God’s creations, babies, men, flowers, animals, the ocean and the wonderful sunrises and sunsets. She loved all animals.
Her favorite things were camping trips to Russian Gulch or any state park, and all the family she could get to join her. Mother will be remembered for a life of honesty and integrity, along with love and faith in God, country and people.
She loved to go berry picking, out to a nice dinner and enjoy a good glass of wine, finding a good bargain, reading a good book, especially the Bible.
Mom married Leon Julius Prevost on July 18, 1972 in Reno. They built a good life together and he loved the family and kids a lot. They were married 25 years. Leon passed away in 1996. They went many places together and had lots of fun. Including going to Hearst Castle, Disneyland, visiting family and friends along the way. They purchased a camping trailer and used it well.
Mom did lots of volunteer work. For many years she worked for election voting poles, helped organize class of “43” reunions, managed the clothing pantry at the Episcopal Church did pruning of the roses, passed out breakfast and snacks for the homeless and their children in the winter at the firehouse, always humble about generously giving to Plow shares, pet and rescue shelter for animals and the food bank, and always wanted to stay anonymous.
Alice is survived by 3 daughters, Lynda McPhetridge (Robert), Glenda Brown (Douglas), Laura Whitmore (Jack). 10 grandchildren; Allen, Robert, Lisa, Eric, Nickolas, Sandee, Randy, Racheal, Heidi, Jack Jr. 18 great grandchildren; Shawna, Matthew, Kody, Kasey, Rocky, Micah, Austin, Isaiah, Janae, Korlee, Wyatt, Madeline, Jaxon, Evan, Alexis, David, Kayla and Evan. 5 great great grandchildren; Richard Jr., Arthur, Christopher, Bobby and Jayden.
