Obituary:
Nancy Sorola Primrose died at home in Ukiah on the evening of Monday April 11, 2011 in the presence of her husband after a three year struggle with cancer.
Nancy was born in Ukiah on July 22, 1947 and lived here until she graduated from Ukiah High School in 1965. She received her BA in English from UC Davis then lived and worked in San Francisco and Monterey for several years before returning to Ukiah in 1983 when both of her parents became ill. Upon returning, she became reacquainted with Stephen Ford and they were married in 1988.
In the mid 1980's Nancy briefly ran the Red Cross office in Ukiah and did substitute teaching in local schools before getting her teaching credentials through the Dominican University program at the County Office of Education. Following her student teaching in Upper Lake she began working with the Ukiah Adult School, first as a part time ESL teacher in the evenings and later teaching high school diploma and GED courses on campus and at the County jail. Nancy took great pleasure in seeing students who had been struggling finally receive their diploma or certificate and several of them became her lasting friends.
Nancy is survived by her husband Stephen Ford.
Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, April 19, 2011 at 2:00 pm at Eversole Mortuary in Ukiah. Memorial contributions in Nancy’s name may be made to the Cancer Resource Center of Mendocino County, P.O. BOX 50, Mendocino, CA 95460.
