Obituary Barbara Renick
Ms. Barbara Renick, a social worker who established the first child welfare programing in the state of California under the federal Indian Child Welfare Act, died peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, November 9th in Willits, CA. She was 80.
Barbara was born and delivered by her father in her family home in San Francisco in 1939. Barbara was an enrolled member of the Fort McDermitt Paiute/Shoshone Indian Reservation of Nevada. She lived in and worked for the state of California as an advocate for indigenous peoples for over 30 years. She received her Bachelors degree from University of California at Davis and Masters degree from National University.
Known for her wit and glamor, she could never resist making people laugh or be seen without her reddest-red lipstick.
She was preceded in death by her father, mother, brother, sister, and partner Patrick Renick. She is survived by one brother Robert; two children, Steve and Hillary; and one beautiful granddaughter, Aryana.
At her request, there will not be public services, but she would like you to think of the many wonderful things in life while you enjoy a quiet morning cup of coffee and smile for no reason when you see a large gray cat. Condolences may be sent to the family.
