Obituary:
Jonathan L. Rosales died on April 17 leaving a hole in the universe. He was born December 5, 1933, in the hills above Jerome, Arizona, to full blood Apache parents who joined the migration to California in 1939. Enlisted in the Army in 1956, he was sent to the front line in Korea where he ran the lab in a mini mash. After Korea he worked in LA in medical research until moving to Mendocino County in 1970. Wherever he lived he had a verdant vegetable garden and loved to cook. Jonathan had a great sense of humor and delighted in philosophizing with anyone willing to participate. He enjoyed music, camping, and going to flea markets. He followed the health message of his church, worked hard, and believed that all people deserved respect, fairness, and tolerance. Jonathan was extremely proud of his Apache heritage and was saddened that most people are now so separated from the earth and disregard her needs. He was very creative, wrote and directed the documentary The Run To Save Sinkyone which was shown at the Sun Dance Film Festival. He dearly loved his God, family, and friends. He will be truly missed by all the lives he touched. He was an inspiration. “When the blood in your veins returns to the sea and the earth your bones return to the ground, perhaps then you will remember that this land does not belong to you, it is you who belongs to the land.” American Indian saying.
