Dick Royle was born in Berkeley and grew up in Fresno, where he graduated from Fresno High School. He earned a B.A. in Political Science in 1952, and a B.S. in Business Administration in 1958, both from the University of California, Berkeley. From 1952 to 1954, Dick served as a lieutenant in the Army Military Police in the U.S. and Korea. He had a long and distinguished career in the Department of Defense as a Management Analyst at the Presidio in San Francisco and at Fort McPherson outside Atlanta, Georgia.

He was a loyal Cal alum, an avid reader and follower of world events, and a dedicated fan of tennis and football. He was a loving husband, a devoted father, and a wise and gentle soul who will be deeply missed by many.
