Obituary:
Frank M. Sagehorn, born in Willits, Ca. December 1, 1919 passed away August 17, 2013 at the age of 93 at the Cloverdale Healthcare Center. Frank was a 3rd generation Mendocino County Livestock rancher whose family was among the earliest pioneer settlers in this area.
He is survived by his adoring wife, Mary of 51 years and their combined family of 5 children, 3 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
Frank graduated from Round Valley H.S. in Covelo in 1937, after which he entered U.C. Davis and received a B.S. degree in animal science. In 1942 he then entered the U.S. Navy, upon receiving his commission; he served as gunnery officer on the destroyers U.S.S. Richard B. Anderson and U.S.S. Mustin in the South Pacific for the duration of WWII. He was honorably discharged with a rank of Lieutenant.
After the war Frank returned to the land and the livestock business he loved. He cared a lot for out-door life; his cattle, horses and hardworking dogs.
He was a member of California Cattlemans Assoc. Served as president of Mendocino County Cattlemans Assoc. He was on the board of Directors of Mendocino County Farm Bureau for 25 years. He also served many years as Committee Man, head of Farm Services Agency, (U.S.D.A.) for the county. Frank belonged to St. Anthonys Catholic Church in Willits, Ca.
