Obituary:
Andrew Henry Schapmire, 79, of Ukiah, CA died January 24, 2013 after a lengthy illness.
Andy was born June 9, 1933 to Robert and Mary Jordine Schapmire in Bloomington, IL. Andy attended Raymond and Irving Schools and graduated from Bloomington High School in 1950 at the age of 15. Andy served in the United States Navy from 1953 to 1957. He was stationed in Newport, RI aboard the USS Cascade.
Andy is survived by his wife, Kathryn; daughter, Andrea (Don) Wakefield, Downey, CA.; son, Todd (Shari) Schapmire; grandsons, Todd, Jr. (Noel) Schapmire; Tyler (Lindsay) Schapmire; great-grandchildren, Gianna Schapmire and Abe Schapmire; sister, Betty (Larry) Cave, Bloomington, IL; sisters-in-law, Betty Wilson, Prescott, AZ; Carol Schapmire, Decatur, IL; Joan Schapmire, Bloomington, IL; brother-in-law, Jerry Sampson, Bloomington, IL. He also leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews and their families, as well as many wonderful friends.
Andy was the owner of Andy's Office Machines in Downey, CA for over 20 years, but after becoming a very proud grandfather he sold the business and moved to Ukiah to be near his grandsons Todd, Jr. and Tyler. Andy loved being a Dad, Grandfather, and Great-Grandfather. At the end of his life his most fervent wish was to live to see his Great-grandchildren, Gianna and Abe - that wish was granted. Andy was also very proud of his 60 year marriage to Kathryn. The couple met at Jeagers's a teenage hang-out in Bloomington, IL and married one year later.
Andy was the ultimate repairman. There was nothing he could not fix or repair. He
was so inventive and talented that his family lovingly said, When Andy was born they threw away the mold. He had a killer sense of humor and a kind and generous heart. He will be unforgettable in every way.
There will be no service per his request. At a later date the family will host a celebration of life in honor of Andy.
