Obituary:
Ronald LeVoy Schryer, 77, of Boonville, CA, died at his home December 23rd, 2014, of natural causes. Ron was a forty-year resident of Anderson Valley. Born and raised in South Bend, Indiana, he was the son of the late LeVoy and Theda Schryer. Ron attended Purdue University for a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature and a Masters program at the University of Oregon. He traveled internationally and then lived in the Bay Area, teaching English at a private high school. His move to Boonville with his family was in the back-to-the-land spirit of Henry David Thoreau and Edward Abbey, and he shared their radical political views. He built a house and garden, wrote every day, and worked with children at local group homes. With his beloved dog companions, he enjoyed his homestead and cherished visits with his family, gardening and cooking, and a collection of music and literature. He is survived by his two daughters and sons-in-law, Erin King and Adam Beach, of Oakland, CA and Nicole and Jason Newman, of Davis, CA, and by two sons, Dan Schryer and Keven Barnes, six grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. He is survived also by his sister Vonnie Hering and three nieces, Alicia Garcia and Valley residents Diane Hering and Ellen Springwater. He was preceded in death by his friend of 60 years and former brother-in-law, Bruce Hering. He was well respected by his friends, dearly loved by family, and will be greatly missed. As Ron wrote in the final line of a poem after his father died, Goodbye, goodbye, goodbye.
