Obituary:
Margueritte Rose Shields, age 86, passed away peacefully at her home in Ukiah, California on Friday, May 20, 2016. She was surrounded by her family at the time of her passing.
Margueritte was born August 11, 1929 to her parents, Henriette and John Garzini in Talmage, California where she lived until April 7, 1951 when she married her husband, Alva Terrance Shields and moved to Ukiah. She lived in Ukiah the rest of her life. Margueritte worked at the Assessors Office at the Mendocino County Courthouse, and later retired from Waste Management after being the office manager there for more than 20 years. After retirement, Margueritte volunteered for Plowshares as well as the Ukiah Senior Center for more than 15 years. She was an avid bowler and gardening enthusiast. She enjoyed knitting and sewing and often made her own clothes as well as clothing for her children. Margueritte was an active member at St. Marys of the Angels where she attended faithfully and volunteered for various church functions.
Margueritte loved to travel. She made several trips to Europe, as well as vacationing in Mexico, Hawaii and New York City.
Margueritte is lovingly survived by her sister, Jeanette Larramendy, her son, Timothy Shields, her daughter, Roxanne Bateman, her three grandchildren, Daniele Shields, Andrea Heaney and Kyle Shields, and her great-grandson Bryton Shields. She is predeceased by her husband Alva Terry Shields, her parents, Henriette and John Garzini and her brother, Henry Garzini.
A Recitation of the Rosary will be held on Wednesday, May 25, 2016 at 5 p.m. at Eversole Mortuary. Mass of the Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, May 26, 2016 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary of the Angels Catholic Church. Interment will be in Ukiah Cemetery.
