Alice Jane Simmons
1929 – 2010
Alice Jane Simmons, loving wife of John Simmons, loving mother of John R. G. Simmons and daughter, Tracy Lee Simmons, passed away Sunday, November 21, 2010 at Ukiah Valley Medical Center with her husband of 61 years and daughter by her side. Jane attended Oregon State College where she met her future husband to be, the love of her life. Jane was a quiet person who never had less than a complimentary word to say about anyone and her favorite retort to complaints of others was, “oh well”. Jane was an unusual person in that she always wanted to do for others and yet she was not big on being a “joiner” or drawing attention to herself. She was always available to help others and the organizations that were dearest to her heart and she supported were the Ladies of the Nile, Shiner’s Hospital for Children, and Special Olympics. Jane provided the Sacramento Shiner’s Hospital with their first voice-activated computer for the use by the “shrine kids”. Jane was the propulsion behind her family and was always there with a supporting comment or action and never outwardly looking for credit for those actions, and was totally unassuming. She had a great love of the ocean and California/Oregon coastline and the four years she spent living on the California coast were probably the happiest times of the life but she was willing to give this up in support of her family. After moving to Ukiah, Jane worked for the Mendocino County Office of Education working herself up to the position of Executive Assistant to the Superintendent of Schools. She loved her tenure with MCOE and adored the people she worked with and became friends with over the years. In 1995, she started on her busy life of becoming the First Lady of Aahmes Shrine Temple, the position she filled with absolute perfection and grace. Her grace, elegance and sense of humor showed through in all that she did.
Jane is also survived by her daughter-in-law, Dee Simmons, Glen Daniels (fiancé of daughter Tracy), Logan Daniels, son of Glen Daniels, and her beloved puppy Lilly, and grand-dog Tucker.
Jane/mom, you will be missed and we know that you are watching over us. We love you!
There will be a celebration of Jane’s life on Saturday, December 4, 2010, beginning at 11:00 a.m. at the Mendocino Lake Clubhouse.
