George Robert Slack- Age 77
George aged 77 years, died July 19th, 2016 in his home in Ukiah, California with son Hal and close friends by his side.
He was born April 25th, 1939 in Denver, Colorado. The son of Harold and Thelma Slack. Widower of Betty Slack, The love of his life.
Survived by- Sister Carol A Chapman, Son's Harold S. Slack, Robert G. Slack, Step Son, Robert Roofner. Granddaughter Selina Slack, Great Grandson Tristan Slack, and countless loving Friends.
George proudly served in the United States Navy. He was stationed in Guam from 1957 to 1959. He was an honorable Vet.
George spent his days working as a heavy equipment operator. His favorite crane was a Manitowoc 4100 crawler crane. George was a 50 year, honorary member, in the Operating Engineers Union. Local Union # 3. Where he was well known and respected.
George's proudest days were spent as a Mason/Shrine member. The Red Fezzes Hat that he, like his father wore was a sign of Integrity and Loyalty. He was a humble and charitable man who loved helping children at the Shriners Children Hospital. That wonderful work carried into his community. He helped with big things like the Childrens Health Fair and Toy run but was well known for all the little things he did to help his friends.
Some of George's favorite things in life were being outside, fishing, Lunch at the Garden Cafe' on Fridays with good friends. George loved a late night bowl of vanilla ice cream and fresh peaches.
George was what is still right in this country. He showed us all through his actions that hard work still pays off. He paid society back tenfold what he took. For that George, we thank you.
There will be memorial service for family and friends held at 1500 Lake Mendocino Dr. Ukiah California, 95482, Shrine Hall on Saturday August 6th, at 1:00pm.
