Longtime Ukiah Resident Barbara Steele
June 7, 1937 – March 17, 2015
Born in New Jersey and raised in Reseda, CA, Barbara and the Late Richard “Dick” Steele along with their young son, John arrived in Ukiah in May of 1958 with the purchased the Texaco Gas & Service Station. Their successes were mirrored by the successful business; Dick’s Automotive and with the births of Rick, Crystal, Lori and Denise. As with many young couple the stresses of life including the devastating fire that wiped out their business ended the couples union. A well- known bartender in the Valley for many years Barbara will be remembered most by her quick wit and wonderful personality. In addition to her children, she is survived by her brothers; Richard Drosky, Jack (Sandy) Barry, Pam Campbell, and Debbie (Bob) Walker. Her daughter Crystal would like to extend a special thanks to the doctors and nurses of the ICU and the hospital Chaplin along with the care provided by the team at Ukiah Post Acute Care who allowed her dignity to shine through this very difficult time. No services will be held.
