Steve Carter Alvarado

It is with extreme sadness that after a battle with Parkinson's disease we announce the passing of Steve Carter Alvarado on March 27, 2025. Steve was born on February 25, 1947 in Burbank, CA. As a young child, he moved to Potter Valley, CA where his grandparents purchased a cattle ranch on Burris Lane. On this ranch he had an incredible childhood, growing up with his two brothers Chris and Craig. The stories he would tell of his upbringing on the ranch were plentiful. He and his brothers embraced the "Little Rascals" lifestyle. While in high schooI, the family sold the ranch and relocated to Redwood Valley, CA where he would go on to graduate from Ukiah High School in 1965.

After high school, Steve enlisted in the US Army and served 3 years, mostly stationed overseas in Germany, as a medic. After his time in the Army, he returned home to California where he attended Napa Junior College and then on to the University of Davis. During his time in college, he met the love of his life, Saundra "Sandi" Cannon. While living in Davis with his now wife Sandi, an unexpected gift entered their lives with the birth of their son Andy.

With this new family addition, the family made the decision to move back to Ukiah, CA and Steve started working for his father-in-law Ken Rosen at the Hometown Store. He worked there until a mid life career change happened in 1994, when he became a public safety dispatcher with the Mendocino County Sheriff's Office. He spent the next 20 plus years in this position, serving the citizens of Mendocino County. While employed at the Sheriff's Office, he aspired to and became a Reserve Deputy Sheriff. In this position he found his true passion, working with the COMMET team. When not working his regular 40 hours in dispatch, he would routinely volunteer another 30 plus hours with this group. Here he made some of his best friends.

After he retired, he turned his full attention to photography, riding his BMW motorcycle across the Western United States and most importantly his family. He enjoyed spoiling all of us with trips to Disneyland, Alaska and Hawaii. There was nothing he wouldn't do to love, support and encourage his family.

Steve will always be remembered as a gentle, kind sole with a unique sense of humor who would touched the lives of so many. Unfortunately, late in life he was diagnosed with Parkinson's but continued to fight up until the very end. He is proceeded in death by the love of his life of 47 years, Sandi, grandparents Carter and Belva Alvarado, parents Robert "Bob" Alvarado and Dorothy "Daughty" Dawson.

He is survived by his son Andy, daughter-in-law Kersten, and granddaughter Rylie along with his brothers, Chris and Craig Alvarado. In addition to his immediate family, his sister and brother-in-law Debbie and Chris Gray played a huge role in his life and shared many a laugh and great times with one another.
