Ruby Jewell Suneson
1930-2013
Ruby was born in the small town of Brooklyn, West Virginia on the Now River. When she was 2 years old, her father was killed in a train accident and at the age of 4 her mother passed away. She was taken in and raised by her paternal grandparents, Thomas and Carrie Dangerfield. They raised her as their own and Ruby always considered them as her mom and dad. She was raised in a loving home surrounded by many aunts, uncle and cousins. After graduation from high school, her curiosity about the world led her to join the U.S. Air Force as a communication specialist. She received several Good Conduct Medals, Air Force Commendation Medals and the Meritorious Service Medal. She had many assignments in the U.S. and tours of duty in Germany and England. While there, she travelled extensively throughout Europe.
In 1971, she was assigned to Hamilton AFB in California where she met her future husband John. They hit it off immediately and they purchased property in Redwood Valley. Shortly thereafter Ruby transferred to Germany and John to Alaska. On November 16, 1973, they were married in Alaska. After retirement from 22 years in the service, they returned to Redwood Valley and built their home and a ranch in the hills. Ruby was a case management secretary for CCMC. For the next 30 years Ruby loved gardening, raising cattle even with all the hard labor and having her dogs and cats.
Ruby is surived by her husband John Suneson of Redwood Valley, brother Ted Bailey of Loganville, Ga.
At Rubys request no services will be held.
