Obituary:
Known to many as Coach, Billy R. Tatum passed away Thursday December 2, 2010 at age 83 at his home. He is survived by loving wife, Berta of 62 years, daughters Tanya Tatum, Tammy Pinoris, son-in-law Mike Pinoris, grandchild Makela, nephews Billy Deece Tatum and Danny Hagood, nieces Gail Robinson, Debbie Lucas, Renee Garcia and Sherry Hagood.
At age 15, Bill proudly served for 4 years in the US Navy in World War II. A resident of Ukiah since 1953, he was a teacher, coach and administrator of Ukiah Adult School. For 20 years, he coached football, boxing, wrestling and golf at Ukiah High school. When he wasnt coaching, he refereed sports and in the summers worked as a pear orchard foreman for numerous ranches in Ukiah. A Past Exalted Ruler, and a Past President of the Lions Club and Shriners, he was a dedicated philanthropist and always willing to give a helping hand. A man of many words and adventures; he will be remembered by his jokes, storytelling, love of life and good times. He loved his family, friends, students, his community and his country and will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Friends are invited to a Celebration of Life on Saturday December 11, 2010 at 11:00 am at Mendocino Lake Clubhouse, 1200 Lake Mendocino Drive, Ukiah.
