Obituary:
Gloria Thompson, a lifelong resident of Calpella and Redwood Valley, passed away on August 18th with her family by her side. She was born on December 17, 1932, in Calpella to Pete and Lily Rovera. Gloria and her husband Oren Thompson were married on June 17, 1951, and recently celebrated their 60th anniversary. During their 60 years one of Glorias special joys was working with Oren and their children and grandchildren for 34 years in their family business, Valley Paving. She also got much pleasure helping people design and build their homes. In her spare time at the age of 70 she decided to put her years of entertaining to use and opened Thompsons Party Rentals. She truly enjoyed helping people and working with her family.
Gloria was proudest of her family and friendships. She was the spirit of the Ukiah Sons of Italy for which she held a special place in her heart. She was also a member of Soroptimist International of Ukiah and a founding member for over 50 years of the Sew & Sews.
Gloria will be remembered for her love of and commitment to her family, her open door and welcoming heart, her passion for cooking and of course great parties. She was Mom, Gram and Nonni not only to her family but to all of their friends. She made time for everyone and was mentor to many. She was everyones go to person and will be deeply missed.
Gloria is survived by her husband Oren Thompson, children Kathy Ault and husband Joe, Mike Thompson and wife Pam, Jim Thompson and wife Lisa, grandchildren Scott Ault and wife Andrea, Tim Ault and wife Danielle, Amy Thompson and husband Josh, Sara Pierce and husband Brad, Andy Thompson, Amanda Purcell and husband Steve, Darin Thompson, Devin Thompson, great grandchildren Tyler and Dylan Ault, Lily and Adam Lewis, Tea and Dalila Ault and Trenten Purcell, numerous nieces and nephews, brothers and sister-in-law Buhl Hoover, Tom Thies and Richard and Charlene Thompson and good friends Joe and Valerie Fernandes. She was preceded in death by parents Pete and Lily Rovera and sisters Lorraine Hoover and Eloise Thies.
Services will be held at Eversole Mortuary on Wednesday, August 24th at 10 am. There will be a viewing from 3 pm to 8pm on Tuesday, August 23rd. Donations may be made in her memory to Ukiah Sons of Italy, Cancer Resource Center of Mendocino County, St. Marys School Foundation, Phoenix Hospice. Arrangements are under the direction of Eversole Mortuary.
