Obituary:
Sibyl Townsend died peacefully at her home in Ukiah on Sunday November 15, 2009. Born in Bertram, Texas, Sibyl had lived here since 1947. She had worked in the family business, Townsend Bros. from 1947-1983. In her later years, she was also a loving caregiver. She was proud of her cooking and baking for family and friends, canning fresh produce from Bills garden, making jams & jellies. Ghe gave of her time and heart to friends and family. Sibyl is a member of the Ukiah Rod & Gun Club and Salmon Unlimited. She was the Valedictorian of her high school class and was granted a full scholarship to the University of Texas in Austin.
Sibyl is survived by her husband Willard A. Townsend of Ukiah whom she married on October 11, 1940, daughter Gale Nelson of Ukiah, daughter-in-law Gretel Townsend of Ukiah, sister-in-law Flossy Nutt, of Brownsfield, TX, brother James L. Nutt of Sioux City, IA, grandchildren Jon Eric Sutten, Mia Mull, Lisa Klinkhammer, 7 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son Willard Dean Townsend, sisters Shirley Suddreth, Wanda Jean Nutt and brother R.G. Nutt.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday November 20, 2009 beginning at 1:00 pm at The Eversole Mortuary. Family would appreciate memorial contributions to Earle Baum Center for the Blind, 4539 Occidental Road, Santa Rosa, CA 95401.
