ANGELO CHARLES TRESCA

Angelo Charles Tresca was born on February 5, 1913 in Union City, New Jersey of parents who had migrated to from Sicily in the early 1900’s. Angelo had a brother, Bill, sister, Mary, and baby sister, Helen who died as a child.

Angelo attended Union Hill high school, where he took violin lessons. While continuing his lessons, Mr. Tresca began playing the violin at mass in St. Rocco’s Church, Union City, New Jersey, where he joined the Holy Name Society. His love for classical music evolved during this period.

After attending high school, he worked for the Kaywoodie Pipe Factory in West New York, New Jersey in the 1920’s and 30’s where he met the love of his life, Jean (Genevieve) Adamo, in the mid 30’s. They were married on December 3, 1939 at St. Rocco’s Church. Then in the late 30’s, Angelo took an engineering job at Cal Light Company, learning light bulb filament design with a high school friend Joe Celia.

During World War II, Mr. Tresca worked on the manufacture of the Norden Bombsights used in allied B-117 aircraft.

After the war, he left for an opportunity to work with his brother-in-law/entrepreneur, Charles Monaco whose business enterprise focused on the manufacture of straw and velour millinery in New York City.

In the meantime, Angelo and Jean had a daughter, Frances, born in 1943 and a son, Charles, born in 1953. They lived in West New York, until 1956 and then moved to North Bergen.

In the 1950’s Angelo’s high school friend, Joe Celia, started his own business, The Union City Filament Corporation, where he manufactured many types of filaments, especially those for the medical industry. Mr. Celia asked Angelo (who was called “Charlie” at that time by all of his friends) to work for him. Mr. Tresca accepted the offer and worked there as a manager/foreman for more than 25 years until he retired in 1978.

Angelo was also a car enthusiast all his life. His cars were kept immaculate inside and out.

Additionally, he loved to watch baseball, particularly, the Brooklyn Dodgers (at that time). He knew every player’s name and their batting averages. When he moved to California, he was a major fan of the San Francisco Giants.

Mr. Tresca had a deep love for classical music throughout his life. He memorized much of the music he listened to and could tell stories about each of its composers.

Angelo had other hobbies including building model trains, model cars, and sketching. He was quite an artist! His abundance of patience and attention to detail made him a perfect candidate for these skills.

He was a very gentle, kind person and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Angelo’s wife, Jean (Genevieve), passed away in 2004. He is survived by his daughter Frances Miliano (husband, Robert), and son Charles (wife, Rosanna), three grandchildren, Hollie Miliano Guidi (husband, Fred), Sean Miliano (wife, Momo), Mark Miliano (wife, Liz), and one great-granddaughter Alyssa Wright.


A rosary service will be held on Sunday, October 13, 2013 at the Eversole Mortuary at 6:30 P.M. a funeral mass will be held on Monday, October 14, 2013 at St. Mary of the Angels Catholic Church at 10:30 A.M. burial will be at George Washington Memorial Park in Paramus, New Jersey.
