Obituary:
Lorene Evelyn Van Matre died at a local hospital in Cloverdale on Sunday August 29, 2010. Born in Santa Rosa, she was 89 years old. Lorene lived in Ukiah and Cloverdale in the 1940s 1950s spending the last 8 years in Cloverdale but previously living for 20 years in Sitka, Alaska. Amongst her many accomplishments, she owned a restaurant Lorys Café in Sitka, Alaska and owned a beauty shop in Reno, NV. She served as President of the American Legion Auxiliary and traveled across the U.S. with their choir. She was very active in the American Legion Auxiliary Alaska Chapter.
Lorene is survived by her daughter Janet and son-in-law Jim Van Housen of Redwood Valley, sister-in-law Joanne Dow of Cloverdale, brothers Gilford and wife Marilyn Dow of Upper Lake, Raleigh and wife Sandy Dow of Ukiah, grandchildren Lory McAsey and husband Dan of Potter Valley, Clay Van Housen of Kelseyville, great-grandchildren Jimmy McAsey, Melinda Silva and husband Tony, Tyler Van Housen, Ryan Van Housen, great-great-grandchildren Cassidy, Laila and Tatiana McAsey. Lorene is the daughter of the late Hugh Barton Dow and Emma Dow (nee Potter).
