Obituary:
Raymond S. Vanoven was born April 30th 1927 in Ukiah, California to Vivian Thornton and left this earth on February 4th 2012 surrounded by family. Ray grew up in Potter Valley and lived his entire life in Mendocino County. At the age of 18 Ray started what would be a lifelong career as a truck driver and diesel mechanic. Around the age of 28 Ray received an honorable discharge as a merchant marine only to continue his love as a truck driver.
Ray had many accomplishments throughout his life but the one he was most proud of was his marriage to the love of his life for the last 26 years. There are so many things he will be remembered for and by, his strength and love being the most important. He had a stand up handshake and beautiful smile with that twinkle in his eyes every time you saw him. Ray made an impact on everyone he met including the trucking community and will be greatly missed by all.
