Resident of Potter Valley, California

Obituary:
Winifred Wanda McCreary Warden passed away Friday, May 25, 2018 at the age of 93 after undergoing a medical procedure at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital.
Wanda was born in Ukiah on August 17, 1924 and was raised in Potter Valley on the Eel River by her parents Bill and Edna McCreary in a cabin that her dad built. Wanda attended elementary and high school in Potter Valley along with her three siblings; Everett McCreary, Inez McCreary, and Fay McCreary Lovell, all deceased. Wanda would often reminisce about riding their horses over the hill to catch the bus as kids. She and her siblings enjoyed their summers swimming in the Eel River. After graduation she moved to the Bay Area where she attended nursing school and worked.
Wanda married Alan Warden, son of Maybel Busch of Potter Valley, on August 6, 1944. Together they moved to Oakland where Alan worked as a Merchant Marine and then was transferred to the Chevron Oil Refinery in Richmond. They built a home in El Sobrante and raised four children; John Warden, David Warden, Paul Warden, and Nancy Warden Todd.
After Alan retired from Chevron they moved back to Potter Valley where Wanda lived the rest of her life on the property she loved, surrounded by her family and friends.
Wanda enjoyed music and one of her most cherished memories was singing for many years with the Mendocino/Lake County chapter of the Sweet Adeline Group. She was a member of the Redwood Empire Sheepdog Association (RESDA) along with her companion dog, Duke. She loved to take out-of-state hunting and fishing trips with her family and friends; she adored gospel music – especially the old hymns; and she was a faithful member of the Potter Valley Bible Church.
Wanda is survived by her daughter Nancy Warden Todd, married to Russ Todd of Potter Valley; her daughter-in-law Jennifer Warden of Chico, Ca; her 4 grandchildren: Stacey Todd, Rachel Todd Fansler, Jedidiah Todd, and Julie Warden Abbate, an many great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Alan Warden, her parents, siblings, and 3 sons: John Warden, David Warden, and Paul Warden.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 30, 2018 at 11:00 am at the Potter Valley Bible Church. Immediately following, there will be a reception at Family Camp, 20021 Ridgeway Hwy Potter Valley, Ca 95469, located over the hill in Potter Valley, on Wanda’s property.
