Obituary:
Ernest Ernie Ridpath Williams
Private services were held for Ernie Williams of Ukiah who passed away on Thursday, March 10, 2011 at a local care home.
Born May 27, 1914 in Ukiah, Ernie was home schooled by his mother, Ethel Williams, in his early years. As more people moved to the general area, there were enough children and Ernies father, Frank Williams with help from others, built a small one-room schoolhouse on the headwaters of Big River. The school was about 2 ½ miles, by trail, from the Williams home.
There were a total of 5 children in the Williams Family. Sisters Una Smith of Santa Rosa and Jean Dalpoggetto of Santa Rosa and brothers Roy Williams of Willits and Glenn Williams of Ukiah all deceased.
Ernie began his service in the Army on February 19, 1941. He was very proud to be a Veteran. His tour of duty came to an end on July 7, 1943 when he was granted a discharge to return to the Family Ranch where he worked for the next four years. He was a self-employed logger and rancher.
Ernie was most proud of his family. He raised 4 children with his wife Mary Williams who preceded him in death in 1992.
He is survived by his sons Dan Gill and Bruce William of Ukiah and Forest Williams of New York, NY and daughter Judy Westbrook of Eugene, OR. Ernie is also survived by many grandchildren and great grandchildren whom he adored.
Ernie was very interested in his Scottish heritage. He enjoyed traveling to Scotland to study his heritage and family tree.
Ernie will be most remembered for his lighthearted wisdom he shared with us as what we like to call Ernie-isms. You will understand when your children are born.
Eversole Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
