Obituary:
James Woodrow “Woody” Wilson
1914-2011
James Woodrow “Woody” Wilson was born on August 27, 1914 in Fort Worth, TX, and passed to his rest on May 28, 2011 in Ukiah, CA. He grew up around Ardmore, OK, and married a young school teacher, Wilda Chase, on July 24, 1941. He worked in an aircraft factory near Dallas, TX, during World War II. The family moved to Ukiah in 1945 where Woody worked in construction for a number of years. He and Wilda owned and operated the United Farm Agency Real Estate in Ukiah from the late 1950’s through the ‘70’s. During this time Woody also served as district manager for the company. Their office received frequent recognition from the company for their record sales. Woody wrote a book of human interest stories gleaned from his years in country real estate sales entitled The Escrow is Open. At the age of 60 he obtained his private pilot’s license and flew regularly in his business.
His family meant everything to Woody. He and Wilda made numerous visits to where their son and daughter were serving as missionaries in South American—driving across South America from Peru to Uruguay with their daughter and her family and from Columbia to Brazil with their son. Woody believed in and supported Christian Education all his life. Sometimes at great personal cost he made sure that his children as well as many others could get the best education in Seventh-day Adventist schools.
Woody’s retirement years were spent traveling, gardening, keeping up with his computer, and answering Bible questions submitted to BibleInfo.com. He was a member of the Ukiah Seventh-day Adventist Church since 1945. The hope of the second coming of Jesus was his mainstay all his life. Woody is survived by the love of his life for almost 70 years, his wife Wilda; his son, Michael, and his wife, Kathy; his daughter, Gayle Haeger, and her husband, Gerald; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 11, at the Seventh-day Adventist Church, 1390 Laurel Avenue, Ukiah, at 4 p.m. All who knew Woody are invited to attend. Any memorial gifts can be given to help build a church in Woody’s memory on the banks of the Amazon River in Brazil. Make gifts to the Ukiah Seventh-day Adventist church with a note that it is for Woody’s memorial.
